Tourism Trends in 2010-2011 The rest of South Asia can be divided into two groups of countries. There are those, like Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives, which depend heavily on tourism and therefore take it very seriously - with commensurate results. Arrivals were up 31%, 21% and 14% respectively in these three countries (for 10, 11 and 12 months of the year). Sri Lanka is rejoining this group of countries with the end of its civil war in 2010: arrivals were up 46% in 2010 and 31% in 2011. Then there are the countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, where social or political problems sideline tourism. Overall, UNWTO estimates that arrivals in South Asia were up 9% in 2011. Southern & Southeast Asia destinations grow fast in 2011
