In
1979 Jigme Singye Wangchuck privately married four sisters who were descendants
of two of the Shabdrung, the rulers of the old dual system of government.
The parents of the present Queens, Yab Ugyen Dorji and Yum Thuiji Zam,
settled in the early fifties in Nobgang. The four Queens (Ashi
Dorji Wangmo, Ashi Tshering Pem, Ashi Tshering Yangdön and Ashi Sangay
Choden) have five more sisters, three
brothers (Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup, Dasho Ugyen Tsechup and Dasho Topgay)
