» Blockade: Maoist blockade has been in force for nine days.
» Attack: Maoist rebels have attacked a truck convoy escorted by an Army patrol west of Kathmandu. One civilian was killed in the incident.
» Security: Army has beefed up security along the highways. Helicopters are providing air patrols.
» Gun fight: Police forces have foiled a Maoist attack on a police post in Dhanusha district.  One policeman and several rebels were shot dead in the gun battle.

» Military aid: India has halted military aid to Nepal  because of the royal takeover of power.  India has been a major source of military assistance. Humanitarian aid and support to infrastructure projects would not be affected, Indian officials said.
» Military aid: Britain has suspended its military aid to Nepal.
» Military aid: "End of military assistance will not have immediate effect in our current operations.  It will indirectly benefit the Maoists," RNA spokesman Brig. Gen. Gurung said. The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) will continue to launch operations against Maoist rebels despite the suspension of military assistance.
» Shutdown: Maoists rebels apparently are trying to enforce a shutdown of local schools in the western parts of Nepal.
» Mediation: Assistant UN Secretary General  K.C.  Gautam has reiterated the important role the UN could play to resolve the Maoist insurgency in Nepal.
» Arrest: An alternate central committee member of the CPN (Maoist) was arrested  in the Indian state of West Bengal.
» Encounters: According to Army sources, clashes between the security forces and the Maoist rebels   were reported from Arghakhanchi, Dhading, Kavrepalanchowk, Morang and Sindhuli districts.

» Development: The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which has been working in Nepal for more than five decades, has suspended its projects. SDC had trouble with the Maoists for the last eight months, as the Maoists had been demanding the SDC to contribute financially or register with the outfit.

» Radio: Due to complete censorship of the national media, Maoist FM radio stations gain popularity.
» Blockade: Maoists' indefinite transportation blockade has severely affected life in various districts across the country. Some districts are facing food shortage.
» Blockade:  Maoists continue to obstruct despite curfew being imposed on highways.
» Human rights: Human Rights Watch called on both the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Royal Nepali Army to immediately instruct their forces not to attack civilians or civilian objects in keeping with the basic tenets of the laws of war, and to discipline any troops responsible for abuses.
» Attack: Maoist rebels stormed a state-owned local TV station and destroyed the office as well as the studios in Banke district.
» Encounters: Maoist rebels and security forces clashed in Siraha and Sankhuwasabha districts.

» Blockade's end: Maoist rebels announced today they were withdrawing the stir as well as an accompanying transport shutdown. The chairman of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Prachanda said in a statement: "The CPN (M) has called off the indefinite transport strike and blockade considering the responsibility towards the public".
» Warning: CPN (M) chief Prachanda said that his party would call a nationwide strike next month if the situation did not improve.  It is thought that the Maoists would try to enforce indefinite closure that would encompass educational institutions, industries, shops, transport and every thing else, from the next Nepalese month of Chait that begins March 14, 2005.
» Encounters: The Maoist rebels clashed with security forces in Kailali district , resulting in the death of at least 14 people, including eight Maoists and four security personnel.
» Review: CPN (M) would be undergoing a review of their strategy in view of India and Britain, two of Nepal's largest donors for military supplies, announcing a suspension in the aid to show their disapproval of the royal takeover.
» Encounters: The Maoist rebels clashed with security forces in Kailali district , resulting in the death of at least 14 people, including eight Maoists and four security personnel.

» New phase of war: "CPN (M) are going to start a new phase of movement increasing military resistance and mass movement of people", Maoist supremo Prachanda said in a statement. The Maoists  ave threatened to launch their "final assault" .

» Ambush: Maoist rebels ambushed a vehicle of the Army killing at least 10 security personnel in Bara district. Before this incident the rebels burnt some private vehicles plying along the Mahendra Highway.
» Education strike: The Maoists have called an indefinite educational institutions strike in Bardiya and chitwan districts.
» Abduction: The Maoist rebels have abducted students and teachers forcing them to attend their programmes in Nuwakot district.
» Encounters: Maoist rebels and security forces clashed in several parts of the country. Incidents were reported among others from Bara, Kapilvastu and Solukhumbu districts.
