Valley: Bungamati and Khokana Villages

The
two rural villages of Bungamati and Khokana (Khokna) are situated
barely 10 kilometres south from the center of Kathmandu City. The two small
villages are laying at a distance of some hundreds of meters of each other.

The
Bungamati and Khokana (Khokna) locals have remained nearly untouched by
modern life. They are living the life what we call in the best sense of
meaning - simply rural.
Cultural

In
every corner of the village, you come across the hardworking and cheerful
Newars who make most of farming and utilize the spare time with masonry,
carpentry and other manual works. The Bungamati women community is weaving,
knitting and tailoring. The Bungamati settlement is based around the temple
of Bunga-dyo, which is located almost at the centre of the village.
Bunga-dya is local deity who is also known as Rato Machhindranath or Aryavalokiteshwor. |

Bunga-dya
boasts of two temples - one in the Bungamati village and the other in Patan
City. Apart from all this famous temple, one can find numerous ancient
temples, monasteries, stupas, ponds and other architectures that remind
you of its mediaeval culture.
