Girls' education: Not an issue anymore
Girls of Motithang High School
Among the first few girls to receive modern education within Bhutan in the 70s, Dorji Choden, the director of the standard and quality control authority, ministry of works and human settlement does not recollect being intimidated by her male colleagues in school.

The foreign secretary, Neten Wangmo, who also studied in Sherubtse Public School, agrees that though Bhutanese society has never recognised gender disparity, there were few girls in school in the early days. The handful of women who made it through the education system in the early years came from educated families living in newly established urban towns.
