Arms monitoring:
The Maoist rebels locked
up their arms under UN supervision in five out of seven camps, taking them
another step closer to joining the government.
The
registration of Maoist guerrillas and their arms had been completed in
Surkhet, Kailali, Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Rolpa districts. Only two cantonments
in Sindhuli and Ilam districts are left. |

Communist rally:
It's the first time CPN
(M) chairman Prachanda has spoken publicly in Kathmandu. Prachanda warned
of a "massive conspiracy" threatening to disrupt plans for an election
in June. The rebel chief apologized for the mistakes of the past, including
excessive violence and the targeting of unarmed civilians. He said his
party would continue pushing for a federal republic. Prachanda also promised
that a crackdown on corruption would be a top priority if the Maoists gain
legitimate political power. |

Registration of Maoist arms completed:
The
United Nation has completed registration and verification of the Maoist
People's Liberation Army (PLA) fighters and storage of their weapons in
all the seven main cantonment sites across Nepal.
Request
of Maoist combatants:
Soldiers of the
Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA) staying here in Shaktikhor camp in
Chitwan district have demanded that the government and their party (CPN-Maoist)
deploy them for development works.
Maoist

The United Nations Mission
to Nepal (UNMIN) said that the UN had registered 30,852 PLA combatants
and 3,428 weapons from the cantonments across the country. Experts estimate
