» Peace Process: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is visiting Nepal June 13-16 to encourage Nepal's political leaders to continue on the path to peace as they prepare to hold constituent assembly elections later in 2007.
» Probe: OHCHR launch probe on the Maoist wing Young Communist League (YCL) leaders' killing.
» Arms registration: The UN has on 14 June 2007 begun a further series of checks and verification procedures in order to register and gather data on former Maoist rebel army personnel and their weapons, said senior UN officials in Nepal.
» Order situation: Former U.S. President Carter expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation particularly in the southern Nepalese plains as well as the activities of the Maoist aligned Young Communist League (YCL).

» Carter mission: Former U.S. President Carter advocated that all UN states open communication lines with the former Maoist rebels. This includes the US, which still regards the communist party as a terrorist organisation.
» YCL extortions: Carter Centers observers, who had visited 70 out of Nepal's 75 districts, had brought back tales of the YCL extorting businessmen, assaulting members of other parties and refusing to give up the public property they had forcefully captured during the 10-year insurgency.

» Integration: The government formed a special committee to look after the integration procedures of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) into the Nepal Army.
» Mines: Following a peace deal with Maoist insurgents, Nepal now faces the formidable task of collecting and destroying thousands of mines and explosives planted across the country during the decade-long "People's War." According to MAG Mine Action Group (MAG, while 142 civilians were injured or killed when they unknowingly activated IEDs or landmines in 2005, the figure rose to 169 in 2006. This January to May 2007, 67 casualties were reported.

» Regional general strike: Maoists had called a three-day banda following the killing of  one of their cadres by members of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha- Goit faction in Saptari district. Maoists torched four cargo vehicles. Cargo Transport Entrepreneurs' Association (CTEA) announced a indefinite stoppage of services across the country protesting against the incident.
» Election date: The government announced the date for the Constituent Assembly election in Nepal, on 22 November 2007.

» Election date: UNMIN welcomes the announcement of a date for the Constituent Assembly election in Nepal, on 22 November 2007. This is a critical step in the peace process, and indicates the strong commitment of the political parties to work together to fulfill the historic promise to the people of Nepal to form a democratically elected Constituent Assembly.
» Monitoring Team: The United Nations Electoral Expert Monitoring Team (EEMT), established under the mandate of the Security Council resolution 1740, left Nepal after completing the first of a number of visits.
