Carter Centers observers,

Integration:
The government formed a special
committee to look after the integration procedures of the People's Liberation
Army (PLA) into the Nepal Army.

Mines: Following a peace deal with Maoist
insurgents, Nepal now faces the formidable task of collecting and destroying
thousands of mines and explosives planted across the country during the
decade-long "People's War." According to MAG Mine Action Group (MAG, while
142 civilians were injured or killed when they unknowingly activated IEDs
or landmines in 2005, the figure rose to 169 in 2006. This January to May
2007, 67 casualties were reported. |

Regional general strike:
Maoists had called
a three-day banda following the killing of one of their cadres by
members of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha- Goit faction in Saptari
district. Maoists torched four cargo vehicles. Cargo Transport Entrepreneurs'
Association (CTEA) announced a indefinite stoppage of services across the
country protesting against the incident.
