cannot take place unless the peace process is on a solid footing, and a
credible election is critical to the success of the peace process. This
requires not just the setting of a date, but agreement on a road-map which
will ensure that there is not yet another failure to hold the election
on whatever new date is agreed," Ian

UNMIN:
The government ruled out giving
additional responsibility to UNMIN. UNMIN has been lobbying for a wider
role in Nepal's peace process. "The government is willing to extend the
tenure of UNMIN with the same old responsibilities for another six months",
Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan said.

A faction of the Nepal Sadbhavana
Party said his party has formed a defence brigade called "Madhes
Rakshyabahini" to mobilise the youths of Madhes for a final showdown in
the Terai region. |

phase of verification process of the Maoists' People's Liberation Army
personnel at the Fourth Division Headquarters, Jhyalthunga Danda, in Nawalparasi
district. A total of 4,000 PLA personnel were verified during this process. |

New agreements:
CPN (M) chairman Prachanda said all past agreements
have lost their meaning and the Maoist party has to forge a new understanding.
"The most important thing right now is to declare the country a republic
first and then hold the constituent assembly election," Prachanda said.
He warned of unleashing a new revolt. |

Peace process:
The
peace process has faced "great challenges in recent weeks", UNMIN-chief
Ian Martin said. He has called for a review on the peace process and the
implementation of the past agreements.

Terai:
Nepal's human rights workers are
concerned at the increasing number of displaced families in the country's
Terai region where ethnic tension between the Madhesi and Pahade communities
is rising.
In
the past few weeks alone, over 100 Pahade families - at least 500 people
- fled their homes in Bara, Rautahat, Siraha, Saptari and Parsa districts,
the most affected areas in the Terai, a fertile lowland area of southern
Nepal which is the breadbasket and industrial hub of the country. |
