Seven
images of deities stolen from Bhimeshwor temple July
2002 |
|
Unidentified
miscreants night quietly entered the premises of historic Bhimeshwor Temple
in Dolakha, removed seven different images of Hindu deities decorated with
gold from the doorway and fled the scene with them, hoodwinking the sages
and temple guards who were sleeping nearby.
The
main idol of Lord Bhim, which looks more like Shiva Linga, however, is
safe as the Bhimeshwor Temple was locked by the temple priest. The images
that have been stolen include, the image of Chhetrapal (locally known as
Chhyapar) holding a Nag, that of Ganesh and Kumar, two intricately carved
images of lions, and that of Nagraj.

Pashupatinath
to Dolakha, 140 km distance covered by driving in reverse gear! |
|
|
In
hope of removing the bad spell believed to have pushed the country into
the present crisis, two men are preparing to drive their respective vehicles
all the way from Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu with water from
the holy Bagmati river to Dolkha Bhimsensthan, in Dolakha. |
|
Nothing
is special about it. Just that they are covering the entire distance of
136 Kilometers of dangerous hilly road in reverse gear!
The
two drivers plan to offer the Bagmati Holy water to Bhimsen and
pray for peace and stability in the country. Upon reaching Bhimeshwor temple
the holy water the drivers took from Pashupatinath temple after necessary
religious rituals by 13 Brahmins was offered to Lord Bhimeshwor.
The
feat, if successful, will be a rare event as this is going to be one of
the most dangerous vehicular drive ever attempted in the whole world say
observers. The two men will be taking 10 priests from Pashupatinath along
with them in their vehicles who are to bathe the Bhimsen idol with the
Holy water. A police team, an ambulance and number of volunteers are expected
to escort the vehicles. The two drivers believe that they have set a world
record by driving such a long distance in reverse gear and that Bhimeshwor
will never perspire hereafter and no tragedy will befall the nation.
Elders
in Dolkha believe that if the stone idol of Lord Bhimeshwor perspired on
its left side, the people will face som unexpected mishap, while perspiration
on the right side of the idol points to possible tragedy in the Royal Family.
Perspiration on the right side of the idol was noticed before the June
1 Royal Palace tragedy, according
to eyewitnesses.
