The Jomsom-Muktinath
Trek is another popular trekking destination in the Annapurna region.
The main trekking route follows the sandy river bank of Kali Gandaki
river. |
|
|
The
way of life of local people has changed very little during the past centuries
although some of them are living in appropriate concrete houses.
You
will enjoy the variety of the sceneries in this area like the famous hot
springs, Marpha, the tidy, stone-clad village surrounded by apple
and apricot orchards or the monkeys living in the forests around Tukuche,
the former Thakali trading center are worth visiting. |
|
|
Beyond Tukuche you will enter the dry area in the Himalayan rain shadow without any vegetation.
The
soil is drying out under the influence of a strong wind coming from the
south. The rock formations in this region, which is a part of the Tibetan
Plateau, are providing fascinating views. |
|
|
On
route you will see Dhaulagiri with its famous icefalls, Nilgiri,
Annapurna I in the Annapurna range, as well as Manaslu and the so called Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre).
