Charikot
is
located at 2000 m to the north-east of Kathmandu can be reached in 4-5
hours by car. The Arniko Highway, the road to Tibet, descends to the valley
of the Sun Kosi, offering a scenic view of the whole Himalayan range. Turning
east by crossing the Sun Kosi river the manainous road climbs up to 2,600
m providing spectacular views of the mountains of the East and West before
gently descending to charikot, situated on a ledge, 1000 above the Tama
Kosi valley. |

Gorkha
At
an altitude of 1,145 m, Gorkha (Gurkha) is 20 km north of the village of
Abu Khaireni on the Prithvi Highway 136 km west of Kathmandu. Probably
Nepal's most famous village, it is the ancestral home of Shah dynasty and
was the heart of recruiting area for Gurkha regiments. The modern village
is a short walk to the south of Prithvi Narayan's Gorkha Durbar headquarters.
Gorkha is also an optional starting point for treks in the Annapurna region
and along the Buri Gandaki in the Manaslu region. Upallakot lies in the
northeast of Gorkha at over 1500 m. It is the highest point of the ridge,
about 40 mins walk to the east of Gorkha Durbar. There are stunning views
through 360° from Ganesh Himal to the Annapurnas.
Nagarkot
A
well accessible resort destination, Navarro (altitude 2, 175 m) is considered
to be the most sought after, situated at a distance of 30 km east of Kathmandu.
Navarro has virtually become the popular weekend outlet among those in
search of mountain panorama while staying in a comfortable and calm environment.
Particularly at sunrise, the Himalayan range, unfurling all the way from
Dhaulagiri in the west past Everest to Kanchenjunga in the east, emerges
brilliantly to greet the anxious traveller with its captivating magnificence
and splendour.
Kakani
Kakani,
lying at a distance of 23 km northwest of Kathmandu, is a less infested
and more virgin destination offering splendid mountain vista of Ganesh
Himal, Langtang and the Annapurnas. The endowments of nature add luster
to attract visitors to Kakani (1,982 m). Admirers of beauty of nature cannot
remain without being allured by the close-up view of Ganesh Himal
to the north, as well as the beautiful oak and rhododendron forests on
the southern slope leading down to Balaju water garden and park.
Daman
Visitors
craving for the ultimate pan - Himalayan panorama and are enthusiastic
to undertake additional journey to discover it, Daman is the ideal location
at a distance of 75 km southwest of Kathmandu valley the Tribhuvan highway
leading to the Indian border, in the South. Daman (2,400 m) offers the
only uninterrupted view of the entire Himalayan range, an unforgettable
sight leaving indelible impressions in the minds of those who venture to
experience the same as early birds.
