New road project connecting Jiri (Dolakha district) with Surkhe near Lukla (Solukhumbu district)

Tourism Ministry has announced that the construction of a 100-km motorable road linking Jiri (Dolakha district) with Surkhe village (Solukhumbu district) would be started during this fiscal year. The road from Jiri to Surkhe will pass through Salleri. Surkhe is a small village located at a distance of a two-hour walk from Lukla.

The Everest region is the most expensive place in Nepal. Air fright from Kathmandu to Nepal costs NRs 150 per kg. Goods transported by trucks costs only NRs 10 per kg.
