Nepal
is a country of great geographic diversity with a landmass descending from
lofty Himalayan peaks to the green rice fields of the Indo-Gangetic plains.
It borders India to the east, west, and south, and the Tibet Region of
the People's Republic of China to the north.
It
is the site of the capital city, Kathmandu, and several other major towns. |
|
While
Nepalese society generally displays some characteristics (e.g., strong
family ties, a tradition of civility, robust civil society structures,
and firmly-held religious beliefs) that would mitigate any disorder occurring
in the aftermath of a major disaster, political tensions and the rapid
growth of the Kathmandu valley's urban population may have eroded these
cultural constraints.
An
added complication is the poor state of the country's economy, with over
24% of Nepalese living on less than $1 per day, and an overall ranking
of 142 (out of 175) in the UN Human Development Index (HDI).

Nepal
where flat Terai compete with hills where the hills compete with mountains
and, mountains compete with the Himalayas and, the Himalayas compete with
mountain flights.
It
is like step by step walk-way to heaven over-looking eight highest mountains
like ice bergs propping above the sea of cloud.
Nepal
where all corners, creaves and crescents are waiting to be explored, where
all water falls, lakes, rivers and rivulets are waiting to be splashed
where chirpings of birds, batting of butterflies and healings by herbs
are waiting to be explored.
|
|
Nepal
where mono-language, mono-religion, mono dress and monarchical centralized
state has now changed into multi-culture, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual
republic federal state waiting to be explored by anthropologists where
the living medieval king's palace has now turned into a public museum space
where war and peace has enriched peace by unfolding unity in diversity
waiting to be explored by historians.
Nepal
where small is beautiful and big is disaster where not the east meets the
west but, the south meets the north we want to make Nepal not a buffer
zone between India and China but an active economic zone.
Having
said all
Nepal
is still poor.
We
want to stop the vicious circle of more poverty leading to more politics
to be replaced by more prosperity leading to more peace And tourism without
borders can bridge that gap the gap between poverty and prosperity.
