the Maoists. Accordings to these sources the Maoists forced them to join
their people's militia.

Kalikot clash 1:
A large number of Maoist rebels had raided the temporary
base camp of Royal Nepal Army (RNA) set up for the construction of the
Surkhet-Jumla Road on Sunday. According to RNA sources the Maoist rebels
attacked non-combatant RNA personnel involved in road constructions. After
the clash RNA had found the bodies of 40 army soldiers killed by Maoist
rebels while 76 other soldiers were still missing.

Kalikot clash 2: The rebels said that they had killed 159 security
personnel and captured another 50 in the firefight. The commander
of PLA's Western Central Command said in a statement that the Maoist
forces had achieved a major victory in the attack at the army base in Kalikot
district ." The army rejected the claim. No independent verification was
possible on the spot.

Kalikot clash 3: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has started
initial investigation into the incident of Maoist attack on a security
base camp at Pili of Kalikot district .

Strike called off: he Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Trade Union Federation
(ANTUF) has withdrawn an indefinite strike called more than three
weeks ago in the Mechi zone. All tea-estates, tea-factories and transport
resumed operations.

Maoists' threat :
The US ambassador to Nepal James F. Moriarty
said that the Maoist insurgency posed a threat to regional stability in
South Asia. He has warned King Gyanendra to return the country to democracy
or face a slide towards chaos.
