» NHRC probe: A team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has concluded a field visit to Pili in Kalikot district where at least 55 RNA soldiers and over 25 Maoists rebels were killed in a deadly gunbattle earlier this month.

» Landmine: Four policemen were killed and three others injured when the police vehicle was hit by landmine planted by Maoist rebels in Rupandehi district.
» Kalikot clash: Human rights group INSEC said in a statement that 27 RNA soldiers captured after that battle were safe in rebel custody. INSEC expressed its concern about the treatment of these soldiers. INSEC called the Maoist rebels to respect the Geneva Convention.
» Escalation: Nepalese military gears up to counter escalating insurgency, Jane magazine said in a report.
» Shut down: More than 150,000 students have been affected after the Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students' Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) forced all educational institutions in Chitwan district to close down.

» Kalikot captives: The spokeman of the Maoist Western Division said in a press release that it has been keeping up with respectful and humanly behaviour towards the prisoners of war captured after the clash of Kalikot. CPN (M) leader Prachanda said in a statement that the reports about 40 captured RNA soldiers killed by the Maoists in cold-blood are totally false. 52 RNA soldiers are in Maoist detention. The rebels have released the names of the captured soldiers and say they are being treated well.
» Press freedom: The 12 international media groups that went on a joint mission to Nepal in July have released a more comprehensive report on their findings. The report, titled "The Defence of Press Freedoms and Freedom of Expression in Nepal,"focuses on six issue areas: rights and free expression, official harassment and detentions, media laws, censorship, and radio. 
» Collaboration: CPN (M) chairman Prachanda said in an interview that collaboration between the seven party opposition alliance and the Maoists would break ice of the existing trilateral power balance in the country.
» Damage: EU mission in Kathmandu condemned Maoist attacks on industries in Nepal. "The Maoist actions violate the human rights of workers and cause great damage to the livelihoods of thousands of innocent people, their families, and the overall economy of Nepal," said a joint statement issued by the Industrial Security Group and heads of European Union mission in Kathmandu.
» Raped woman: Local journalists reported that Maoists have raped over two-dozen women inSaptari district. Threats from Maoists had forced tthe women and their realtives to remain quiet about the crime. The Maoists denied the allegations.
» Landmine: At least 5 security personnel were killed and two others were injured in a landmine explosion on the Mahendra highway in Kapilvastu district.

» Landmine: At least 5 security personnel were killed and two others were injured in a landmine explosion on the Mahendra highway in Kapilvastu district.
» Landmine: At least six bus passengers have been killed in explosions and at least four injured seriously while trying to move road-blocks placed by Maoist rebels on the Mahendra highway in Kapilavastu district.
» Royal visit: Maoist rebels threatened they would enforce shutdowns, blockades and other measures to prevent a visit of King Gyanendra in some western districts.
» No mass rape: Local Maoist leaders in Saptari district denied again that members of their party were involved in a mass rape of Dalit women. The leaders are counter-accusing vigilante groups formed in villages.
» Abductions: According to RNA sources Maoist rebels have abducted once more students and other civilians from Darchula, Gorkha and Morang districts.

» Abductions: Maoists abducted at least 130 civilians from remote villages in Salyan district. The Maoists forced the civilians to take part in their "ideological" programmes.
Maoist rebels abducted two forest officers from Ilam district and five teachers from Taplejung district.
» Disappearance: Issuing a statement , the UN Working Group on Enforced of Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) said, "The WGEID regrets that families of disappeared persons or human rights defenders are harassed, hampered from locating their loved ones, and even accused by the authorities of trying to destabilize the country".
» Release: Maoists have freed three journalists after detaining them for four days in Jhapa district.
» Bus torched: Maoists rebels torched two passenger buses for defying their strike at Kadmaha road section in Udayapur district.
